What Can You Expect from Sparrow Children’s Center?
Special Departments at Sparrow Children’s Center
All parents will want to know what they can expect when it comes to care for their children. The Sparrow Children’s Center has the, “most advanced pediatric healthcare facilities in the region.” Sparrow houses the only Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Mid-Michigan. This provides extra support for critically ill infants and premature babies. Along with the RNICU Sparrow has the only full-service Emergency Room for children, The Granger Pediatric ER.
Team Based Approach and Community Resources
Team based mindset, when it comes to care for your child, is at the forefront of Sparrow’s care. Their goal is to keep parents involved and informed. This means you will be able to talk with your care team, see your child’s chart, and work together to plan for care.
When a child is sick or injured it takes a village. With Sparrow support staff you will have help through every step of your journey. Sparrow Children’s Center offers volunteers, works with The Davies Project, offers therapy dogs on a twice-weekly visit, and families can utilize the Ronald McDonald House. Facilities at Sparrow Children’s Center
Walking into a medical facility can be scary! Which is why we’re so excited to share that the children’s clinic at Sparrow is, “designed with fun, kid-friendly decor and a dedicated playroom, plus a teen lounge with books, gaming and air hockey.” This is super important to us as parents because even while our children are receiving medical care, at the end of the day, they are still children. These facilities allow them to laugh, play and relax in an environment that feels like more than a medical facility.
Granger Pediatric Emergency Department
The Granger Pediatric Emergency Department may be where your journey starts. If you are a parent, who needs to head to the Emergency Room, we want you to be prepared with all the details about Sparrow’s Pediatric ED.
When an emergency strikes for Moms in the Lansing Area, Sparrow has the ONLY Pediatric Emergency Department in the entire mid-Michigan area. If your child is experiencing an emergency situation you’ll want to head here. Their physicians and nurses provide care in all of their pediatric areas.
No parent wants to end up in the Emergency Room but if you do there are some things that we love about the Granger Pediatric Emergency Department. We know as a parent, with a sick, or hurt, child, you’ll appreciate these things too! Sparrow has a Child Life Specialist on staff who helps children manage their stress and anxiety, through procedures that might be painful or scary. They have many tools to help reduce anxiety from distraction techniques and more. One thing we know your kids will love is the Slushee machine, it’s perfect for hydrating kids and can make the ER just a little bit less scary.
With Sparrow offering the only Pediatric Emergency Department in the entire mid-Michigan area we know our kids will be receiving the care they need.
What Do I Need to Know About the New Joint Venture with U-M Health?
You may have heard the news about Sparrow joining U-M Health! We could not be more excited and are ready to share details as they come. Right now you should know that the Sparrow Children’s Center will continue to provide the services and care they have in place for the community. The new venture will, “provide greater access to nationally renowned, coordinated care right here in Mid-Michigan.” If you want to know more about the new venture head here!
