Introducing Jazmin Anderson…a Lansing Mom

Hey girl, hey! I’m Jazmin but most people just call me Jaz. I live on the south side of Lansing (born and raised—the playground was not where I spent most of my days). I love tacos, podcasts, sparkling water, houseplants, talking—like a lot—and spending time with my family and friends.

My Family

I’m 28 years old and have been married to my husband, Paul, for six years. He is literally my best friend and makes me laugh non-stop. I’m a mom of two boys. Jeremiah, aka Back Flip Jay, is eight years old and has big dreams of becoming a YouTube star. He loves doing back flips, entertaining people, and Flash is his favorite superhero. Roman is four years old. He loves doing whatever his brother does, he likes to cuddle, Magna-tiles are his favorite toy, and he loves Spider-man. We also have a cat named Annabella.

Young Motherhood

I met my now husband when I was 18. We were young and in love which led to me becoming a mom at the young age of 20. As you can imagine, it changed my life in ways that I never expected. When I found out that I was pregnant, I only imagined the “pretty” parts about being a mom. I didn’t realize that my spontaneous, solo trips to Target weren’t going to be a thing, that it would be hard financially, and that kids will poop any and everywhere. I also didn’t realize how it would feel watching your kid achieve something that they worked hard at, laughing with them, playing Uno with them, and teaching them hard life lessons. All of which makes the poop worth it.

Career/Hobbies

When I first became a mom, I was in a very new relationship, trying to figure out my own identity (which is ongoing), and trying to provide for my family. Without a degree and with little work experience, I was able to land an entry-level job at a mortgage servicing company and have been there for seven years. I have worked my way up to my current role as an operations manager. Although it’s not my dream job, I’ve gained so many personal and professional skills while working there.

As if balancing wife life, mom life, and nine-to-five life isn’t enough, I’m what I like to think of as “multi-passionate.” I love so many different things and try to dabble in as much as I can. I currently host a podcast called Power of Her which consists of interviews with women in Michigan who are doing amazing things. My husband and I have an online plant shop, Stay Rooted. I am on the Diversity & Equity Committee of my son’s school and on the board of a local community center. I’m running a book club and continuously trying to build ideas, relationships, and opportunities.

To say that I stay busy is an understatement. Now, here I am, at Lansing Mom which is a new journey that I am super excited about.
