Introducing Alicia Birdsong…an East Lansing Mom

Hi! My name is Alicia, and I’m very excited to be a contributor for Lansing Mom!

Growing Up

I am a Michigander, born and raised in the metro Detroit area. Growing up, I spent a lot of time up north with my grandparents. They lived on Lake Huron– summers were spent fishing, swimming, and baking with my grandma. Reflecting on those times brings a smile to my face. Michigan summers are the best!

Fast forward to young adulthood. I was finishing up my undergraduate degree at U of M, and planned a trip to Springfield, Missouri to visit a friend who recently moved there. During my week-long stay, my friend introduced me to my now husband. It might sound cheesy, but it really was love at first sight. I was amazed how quickly we fell in love. That was in May of 2007; in September of 2007, I moved to Springfield to pursue our relationship further and start graduate school at Missouri State University. As a risk averse person, this move was out of character for me, but I followed my gut and am so thankful I did.

After living in Springfield for a few years, Frank and I moved back to Michigan. We lived in Canton, then South Lyon, followed by Fowlerville, and now East Lansing. We kept migrating West! East Lansing feels like home for us now; we have lived here since January of 2018. I love how much there is to do for families in the area!

My Family

Speaking of families, Frank and I have two beautiful little girls: Lillian, age eight; and Eleanor, age five. I love being a mom… of course some days are easier than others! Lillian is a very active little girl, and very in tune with her emotions like her mama. Eleanor is more laid back like her daddy, very sweet and funny. They bring us so much joy!

Fun Facts About Me

Fun fact about me: I work full time as a mental health therapist at Spring Forest Counseling and Wellness in Okemos. I also run my own business, Hush Little Birdie Pediatric Sleep Consulting! I love helping people, and both of my professional roles allow me to do just that!

When I’m not momming, wifing, or working, you can find me reading, drinking coffee, watching Netflix, and spending time with friends. I’m looking forward to sharing life with you all!
