The Emerging Parent is your local 0-4 play and parent hub. We aim to be the premier space in Lansing where caregivers can find the community they need to survive and thrive during early parenthood. We provide a beautiful and safe environment for the youngest child to explore, rotating our materials and offerings to keep the space fresh and interesting. We would love to welcome you into our space to play, chat with other parents, enjoy curated play and parent support with a focus on inclusion, development, and connection for both young children and their grownups. The Emerging Parent offers classes, small group style open play, private events, birthday parties, parents only gatherings, support groups, and more.
Conveniently located in the Lansing Mall, Socialight Society is Lansing’s Black-owned, woman-owned independent bookshop. Recognizing the lack of representation in traditional bookstores, Socialight Society curates a collection of classic, contemporary, and children’s titles written for and by women of color. The impact of this initiative has garnered national attention and recognition, with features in notable publications such as The New York Times, The Root, and even a mention from Oprah’s Book Club.
You can often find us out in the community sharing book recommendations and spreading Black Girl Magic at various pop-up events, ranging from festivals to school book fairs. Beyond books and gifts, we offer story time, book clubs, author meet & greets, private events, business mixers, and more!
