Introducing Allie… a Lansing Mom

Hey Lansing Moms! My name is Allie and I play many roles and that’s how I like it! I was born and raised in Livingston County and moved to Lansing for college and to move in with friends. I loved it so much, I never left! My family and I moved to an amazing neighborhood on Lansing’s west side, and couldn’t be happier.

Five Fun Facts About Me:

  1. I teach Home Ec at a local high school, so my days consist of baking, quilting, and all the child development.
  2. I have over 25 tattoos, including a sleeve.
  3. I love to listen to true crime podcasts and “Violent Ends” is my favorite!
  4. I am a Disney adult and I prefer Disneyland over Disney World.
  5. I love the Grateful Dead.

My Family

My husband, Chris, and I met when I was his manager at a local restaurant in college. He now has a doctorate in Geology and works for the State of Michigan, and I am no longer his boss in a professional setting. We have been married almost seven years and have a three-year-old daughter, Olive. We are a one-and-done family and she is the light of our lives. She is rowdy and fun and more than I could ever dream of. I love being a mom.

My Many Daily Roles

Everyone who knows me knows I am a hustler. I have to keep my life busy in order to get things done, even if it can be totally counterproductive. I love learning new things, and that gives me so many roles that I love.

Although I started my professional career in finance and have my first masters in Human Resources, I decided that corporate life wasn’t for me. So I went back to school to become a Family and Consumer Science teacher, just like my mom. I love teaching high school and love my students and content area so much. We have so much fun and I love teaching life skills.

The next on my list of many roles is small business owner. I have a small natural scent company called Lansing Scent Co. We make natural simmer pots, room sprays, bath salts, and rollers and it is something I enjoy so much. Something that started as just a gift I gave to friends and family turned into more than I could have ever imagined, and for that I am thankful.

My Favorite Roles

Being a mom is my all time favorite role ever. After over two years of unsuccessfully trying for a baby, our dreams finally came true and we were given the honor of being parents to an amazing little girl. I could go on for days about the things I love about her, but I will spare you the details. I love to travel, shop, and learn with her as we grow. She’s taught me so much about myself and she encompasses all of my favorite things about myself and my husband.

My next favorite role is being a wife. I know it is so cliche to say my husband is my best friend, but he truly is. He is supportive, kind, and loving. When my brother passed unexpectedly in 2021, he blew me away with his understanding and unconditional love through one of the worst times of my life. I am so proud to be his wife and so excited for our future.

Another favorite role is being a daughter. My parents are such a light in my life, and I am so lucky to have them. When the pandemic hit, my dad happily took over as nanny for our daughter for over a year, driving 60 miles a day to care for her. My mom is my best friend and is never too busy to meet for lunch or a good retail therapy session. They have been through so much together and I admire their relationship greatly.

Allie: The Overview

When I am not being what feels like everything to everybody everywhere (I know, that was a little dramatic, it’s just who I am), I am filling my own cup. I love hand embroidering, thrift shopping, and reading books about all things spooky. I have had the same two best friends since college and getting together with them is my happy time. I am so excited to add being a Lansing Mom Contributor to my list of roles!
