Just like so many others, fall is my favorite time of year and I love finding anything and everything fall-related to do with my family. There are so many amazing options for kids of all ages and interests in and around the beautiful Lansing area! Let’s dive in.
Cider Mills
With so many beautiful options in our area, I have a few to recommend. If you are interested in making a whole day and experience of it, I recommend Uncle John’s Cider Mill in St. Johns! There is a perfect pumpkin patch, jumping pillow for the kids, bakery and gift shop (that has the most amazing and perfectly curated gifts), and of course delicious cider and donuts. You can spend hours here with your family and not run out of things to do or eat! They also have an amazing taproom with delicious cider.
For those looking for a more relaxed and quick trip, check out Phillips Orchard. Located across from Uncle John’s, this beautiful orchard has delicious donuts and cider slushies that are second to none! A gift shop packed with amazing handmade items is sure to help you find the best gifts for anyone in your life.

Fall Events
How to Halloween at Impression 5 Science Center is an outdoor festival that is free to the public. Festivities include trick-or-treating, make-n-takes, character meet and greets, live entertainment and MORE! There will also be special programming inside Impression 5 and regular admission fees will apply to do that special programming. The event takes place Saturday October 5, 2024 from 11am-6pm in the Impression 5 parking lot.
Jack O’ Lanterns Unleashed at the Ingham County Fairgrounds. This is one of our family’s favorite fall events. There are so many amazing Jack O’ Lanterns with themes and different areas. My daughter LOVED it last year and it was so fun to see all the different designs. This runs from October 4-29 and you can get more information on their website.
Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad is another family favorite for us. The Crossroads Village in Flint Township is decked out in Halloween and is just so adorable. We love to get into our costumes and walk around the village and trick or treat and finish off with cider and donuts!
The best part for us is the train! An old steam train takes you through a halloween wonderland and leaves my daughter in awe every time! This is certainly worth the trip. Open October 5-6, 11-13, 18-20, and 30-31 weekdays: 5:00pm – 9:00pm and weekends: 12:00 Noon – 9:00pm. It is $17.00 for the village only and $27 for both the village and the train. Babies under 1 are free.
Trick-or-Treating Before Halloween
There are so many opportunities to trick-or-treat before Halloween in our area, and there are few that I plan on taking my daughter to:
Trick or Treat Trail around the pond at both Burchard Park and Davis Park in Lansing on October 26 between 1-3pm.
The Halloween Carnival at Bath Township Public Library on October 26 from 4-7 pm is an event we cannot wait to attend! It coincides with the Car Show Trunk-or-Treat, the Bath Township Trunk-or-Treat, and the Farmer’s market, so there is something for everyone.
I can’t wait for this fall and I hope if you try any of my favorite activities, you have the best time.
