Celebrate National Cookie Day in Lansing

I don’t know about you, but cookies have always outranked other desserts by a longshot. This might be a controversial stance, but they are perfect, delicious nuggets. They’re reliable. And there isn’t a single occasion that isn’t improved by the presence of a cookie.

Monday, December 4 is National Cookie Day. Of course, one of the best ways to celebrate is by making your own at home. But that’s not for everyone, and sometimes you should just rely on the pros. Here are some of the best places to get great cookies in Lansing, in no particular order.

Sweet Encounter Bakery – Downtown Lansing

You will simply not find tastier baked goods anywhere, including their cookies. Not only is Sweet Encounter unbelievably delicious, they are allergy-friendly. Everything they make is gluten and peanut free, but don’t think for a second that means it doesn’t taste amazing. When both of her children were diagnosed with several food allergies, Nikki wanted to find ways to make allergy-friendly desserts taste better. She has more than achieved that. Stop by Sweet Encounter for National Cookie Day and see for yourself!

Mitten Raised – East Lansing

You can never go wrong with Mitten Raised, which is one of my personal favorites. They offer tons of baked goods, each of them more yummy than the next. Their cookies are no exception, with classic and unique flavor offerings. As a pro tip, they often sell out of their products before closing, so you may want to get there early to get what you want.

Sweetie-licious Bakery – Dewitt

If you want a decadent cookie that you will be thinking about weeks after you eat it because it is *that* delicious, Sweetie-licious is made for you. Their cookies are big, they are perfectly moist, and they are rich in flavor. This bakery is well worth a drive to Dewitt if you don’t already live nearby. You won’t regret it.

Veg Head – Downtown Lansing

Veg Head’s vegan chocolate chip cookies are so good, you won’t even know they’re vegan. Trust me on this one. The first time I tried this cookie, I immediately wanted four more. They are soft and gooey, and perfect. Definitely worth stopping in to snag one (or five).

Flour Child Bakery – Grand Ledge

Flour Child is another local staple that’s well worth a drive if you’re not in Grand Ledge. Their cookies are also perfect, as is everything else they make. As a bonus, they sometimes have lactation cookies for sale that are absolutely delicious.

Strange Matter – Downtown and Eastside Lansing

Known best for their pour over coffee, artisan lattes, and vegan donuts, Strange Matter also regularly offers a vegan chocolate chip cookie and a vegan and gluten free double chocolate cookie. Both are excellent, and pair perfectly with a cup of joe.

Honorable mention: Crumbl Cookies – Delta Township and Okemos and Insomnia Cookies – East Lansing

I would be remiss if I left these cookie greats off of this list. While these are chains, there’s a reason why they are so popular. Crumbl offers some of the most mind-blowing cookies in incredible flavors. They are huge and they are what cookie dreams are made of. Insomnia is a favorite in our house for late night sweet tooth cravings. They offer a huge variety of fresh-baked cookies, including delicious vegan options. As an insider tip: they are usually still warm when they arrive via Door Dash.
