A Guide to Taking Action Against Gun Violence for Moms

The events that transpire every day have left us heartbroken, angry and motivated to make change. We must come together to make change. All children deserve to go to school and feel safe. Here at Lansing Mom we are taking action against gun violence.

This question keeps coming up, what can we do? How can we help? We pulled together all our resources on how you can take action against gun violence.

Ways to Take Action Against Gun Violence Right Now

Contact Your Local State Representatives and Senators

Change begins with us and without asking we won’t receive. We encourage you to find your State Representative and Senator based on your address.

Do Your Research

Find out where your candidate stands on gun laws. This may help you to decide what type of action you need to take when reaching out to your Representatives and Senators.

Send Mail

Lansing Mom will have pre-made post cards available to send to your Reps. Please contact [email protected] to receive a post card.

Compose an Email

Did you know you can email your senator? That’s right, you don’t even have to head to the mailbox, you can send an e-mail, with your concerns and what you want to see happen. Sandy Hook Promise has a pre-filled form that you can use to send an e-mail to your Senator.

Phone Calls and Text Messages

We highly encourage you to call your senator, making a call adds a touch that they cannot ignore. Consider using this script from Jamie Golden.

  • Text RESIST to 50409
  • Text ACT to 644-33 for updates from Everytown for Gun Safety
  • Text CHECKS to 644-33 for advocation of background checks.

Gun Safety in Your Hometown

If you aren’t already familiar with the protocol for your child’s school, when it comes to an emergency situation, and security, we highly encourage you to reach out. Every school will have procedures in place and you can ensure you are an active part of the safety for your children.

Contact your local police station. You can reach out to your local police about how they are responding to gun violence, what part they play in the safety of our schools, and more. You can ask for information about gun locks, educational opportunities, and what opportunities are available for the community on gun violence and safety. If nothing is currently available you can always advocate for change.
