Introducing Kristin…A Dewitt Mom

5 Fast Facts About Me

  1. My enneagram number is 8, which means I’m the Challenger type: self-confident, decisive, and willful.
  2. I am a self-published author of the children’s book, FEARLESS, and have my next two books in the works.
  3. My favorite food is mac & cheese, and my favorite local iteration is from Saddleback BBQ.
  4. I am a lover of sports, specifically MSU football, Lions football, Tigers baseball, and professional tennis.
  5. I am a survivor of childhood trauma and work passionately to provide a community for mothers who are parenting through trauma survival and recovery.

My Lansing Ties

I’m a proud Lansing “lifer,” having been born at Lansing General Hospital in the mid-eighties. I grew up in the relaxed and friendly neighborhoods of Haslett and value the small-town feel my childhood there provided. Having never left the Greater Lansing area, I’ve been blessed to have experienced living in many parts of the city.  I’ve called East Lansing home as an MSU student and resided on the south side as a single woman. My family now lives in Dewitt, the rival town of my childhood Vikings. I’m proud to say I’ve spent time working for organizations and companies that are true staples of the Greater Lansing area, including the Crowne Plaza Lansing Hotel on the west side, Michigan State University, and now Physicians Health Plan.  In that role, I lead a team that ushers area seniors through the confusing and complicated Medicare process. I truly am a Lansing girl!

Family Time

As parents who were both working from home during COVID, purchasing a larger house quickly became important. My husband, Michael, my beautiful daughter, Averie, and I love our new place in Dewitt. Our favorite summer and fall pastimes are hopping on our bikes or walking with the wagon to our favorite ice cream shop or the Dewitt Library. I have to say, we most enjoy the multitudes of parks, trails, and playgrounds our area has to offer. Lastly, our family truly appreciates that this area is so easy to get around.  We’re never more than a short drive from Averie’s grandparents, who also live in the Greater Lansing area.

My Motherhood Experience…so far

I would describe my mothering style as focused. In fact, my biggest challenge as a parent may be that I tend to overthink things. As a survivor of childhood trauma, I am always looking for the opportunity to impart wisdom to my daughter that I may not have had at her age. My biggest goal as her mother is to raise a braver, more vocal, and more aware child than I was. I work every day to rely more on my natural instincts as a mother, and less on the results of my trauma, when making parenting decisions and judgment calls. I look forward to offering this community the opportunity to hear from a mom that is thriving through trauma survival, in hopes that others like me feel supported.

My Passions

I often call myself a chronic life-multitasker because I love having multiple projects going at once.  My greatest passions include writing, blogging, public speaking, podcasting, attending sporting events, and crafting.  I feel most like myself when I am in a “room” with like-minded, strong-willed women. My purpose for much of my work revolves around cultivating spaces in which women and girls feel safe, heard, and seen.
