Hi Lansing Mom Community! My name is Kaitlyn Wilkinson, and I am a Bath mom. I am a Michigan native as well. Before I dive into my life and family, here are five random things about me:
1. I love, love, love flowers, so much so that I dry them and hang them around my house. I would rather have flowers than chocolate any day.
2. I am always searching for the next best tattoo artist in the Lansing area. My tattoos are a hodgepodge of the many great artists around the area!
3. The smell of paperback books will always be my favorite. You will never catch me with a Kindle.
4. Estes Park, Colorado will always have a piece of my heart.
5. Antique and vintage items are priceless.
Family Life
My husband, Jake, and I were set up on a date by my mom and his sister-in-law. He technically crashed my birthday party. We dated long distance for less than a year and then moved into our sweet little home in Bath, got married, and the rest is history. We welcomed our daughter, Magnolia, in December 2020. She is our Christmas baby. Additionally, we have a sweet German Shepherd, Scarlet, a daredevil of a cat, Blair, and a couple of cows. We live on 20 acres in Bath, where we like to grow our own fruit, vegetables, and of course wildflowers – we are all about keeping the bees and butterflies happy.
Career Life
By day, I am a child welfare advocate. I write foster care policy and analyze legislative bills for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). As well as being an analyst, I am growing and learning how to be a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) ally and provide training and resources to my team. Soon, I would like to start selling fresh flowers at the end of my driveway, given the love I have for all things floral. I want to call it Magnolia’s Flowers: Picked by M, Cut by Mom.
Kaitlyn, In a Nutshell
When my name is not mom or when I am not advocating for children in foster care, you will find me doing the things I love the most. I love exploring flower festivals, gardening, grabbing Starbies, perusing Target, reading whenever I can, attending hockey games, and finding the best local restaurants with my husband. My goal in life is to leave this world a little bit better than when I arrived. I am so excited to join the Lansing Mom community and look forward to sharing my sweet, beautiful, and chaotic life with you!
