Introducing Courtney Baker…. an Ionia Mom!

In January 2018, I bought a beautiful ranch on three and a half acres in Charlotte.
I completely re-did a lot of the home before moving in that April. I think at this
point in my life, I needed drastic change. I left Dart for a job in marketing working
for a non-profit health information technology company. I also moved to this
sprawling ranch in the country, bought a riding lawn mower, and sought drastic
independence. I wanted to feel like I could do anything myself. A single mom. I
could own land and take care of it. I could fix up a house myself and call it mine.

However, life had other plans. Shortly after moving in, I met the absolute love of
my life—we both swiped right. He was living in Greenville, about 90 minutes
from Charlotte. Everything went FAST. We met, knew we wanted to make this
relationship work because we both had the exact same intentions. No games,
looking for something that was an amazing parent, and looking to build a future
together. He moved in six weeks after we met, and he started making the
commute back and forth from Greenville to Charlotte. As you can imagine, that
got very hard quickly. Once COVID came, we made the decision that this was
either now or never. Either sell our homes and buy our own or this was not going
to work. We looked at ONE property, a hideous house on 60 acres in Ionia
(halfway between Grand Ledge and Greenville). It was ours. We knew right away
we could live a beautiful life here.

Fast forward three years, we got engaged next to the beautiful pond on our
property, we eloped in Frisco, Colorado in 2021, and welcomed our son, Tristan
Brooks last fall.

As for me, I’m thankful for my blended family and the lessons I’ve learned in this
crazy life thus far. I can’t wait to share more of my story through Lansing Mom!
