Easy Painted Door Activity for the Whole Family

The days have started to drag on a little bit and we are constantly looking for ideas to keep the kids occupied! As we were decorating for Easter, I was feeling a little bit sad that I wasn’t able to browse the Target aisles for colorful decorations. Later, while scrolling Instagram, a friend of mine sent a photo of a window she had painted with her daughter. And so the painted door activity was born!

This is a super simple project that the whole family can be involved in and it will bring a little brightness to your home and the neighborhood! You can even encourage your neighbors to paint their doors, too.

What you need:

  • Washable paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Water cup for rinsing
  • Painters tape
  • Drop cloth
  • Rag to wipe up any messes

Step One:

The painted door activity actually starts with tape! Tape the inside of the door or window. You can tape in any pattern you like. If your kids are old enough, let them make the pattern. Make lots of little shapes or big ones. If you have toddlers keep them busy on the bottom with more shapes. Just be sure to tape the edges so you don’t end up with paint all over the door frame!

Step Two:

It wouldn’t be a painted door activity without paint. Now is the time to get those colors out. Use a different color paint for every shape. With two toddlers at home we had a lot of color mixing but the point was to have fun! And they certainly did.

Step Three:

Let it all dry and then peel the tape off. Even the kids had fun peeling the tape off the door. Head outside and take a look at your masterpiece! If you do the painted door activity be sure to tag Lansing Mom. We can’t wait to see!
