Who doesn’t love a good pastry or baked treat? One of my favorite pastimes is grabbing a coffee and pastry with a friend. Lansing and the surrounding area is full of bakeries and shops selling delicious made from scratch goods. Check out these five delicious bakeries around the Lansing area the next time you’re craving a little treat!
Mitten Raised Bakery
My cousin introduced me to Mitten Raised Bakery in East Lansing a few years back, and it has become one of my go-to spots. They have a large variety of treats to meet your sweet needs, including homemade donuts, cookies, brownie bars, muffins, scones, and cinnamon rolls. Besides sweet treats, they also have a hearty breakfast menu. You can also request cakes and other specialty desserts for events and special occasions. My favorite donut I’ve had there so far is the butterscotch waffle one!
Chapelure
Chapelure is also located in East Lansing and has a large selection of fine pastries, including meat and cheese options. This bakery is a great spot to study or to grab coffee and a bite to eat on your lunch break. I recently had their bacon and cheese croissant and it did not disappoint!
Sweet Encounter
A delicious bakery and café specializing in gluten-free and peanut-free deserts, Sweet Encounter lives up to its name. Sweet Encounter’s menu ranges from cookies and cakes to quiches and tarts and everything in between. Sweet Encounter is not your ordinary bakery; they also offer culinary classes for kids, teens, and adults, along with corporate team building culinary classes and private classes.
Flour Child Bakery & Cafe
Flour Child is located in Grand Ledge and specializes in bagels, croissants, pastries, and quiches. They also have a vast breakfast and lunch menu. Something unique about Flour Child is that they offer lactation cookies for breastfeeding mothers on request. Flour Child was also voted Lansing Area’s Best Bakery in the 2020 and 2022 Top of the Town Awards.
Ayven Grace Coffee & Studio
Ayven Grace Coffee & Studio is just northeast of Lansing in Lainsburg, MI. The family-owned coffee shop and boutique specialize in house-made syrups and gluten-free treats. The studio has gluten free cookies, oatmeal cream pies, rice krispy treats, and cinnamon rolls. Make sure to stop at the boutique connected to the studio!
