Musical Moments: Five Songs for Shaking the Sillies Out

From the moment we wake up, my kids are bundles of energy each day. I love being home with them, but trying to work from home while juggling a three-year-old and a crawling infant along with 100 other house tasks is tricky. We are attempting to stick with some sort of schedule that includes learning time and songs every morning. Dancing and music has proven to be a great tool for expending some energy and shaking the sillies out.

Here are our five favorite songs for shaking the sillies out:

  1. Shake Your Sillies Out
  2. Action Song
  3. Freeze Song
  4. Listen and Move
  5. Penguin Dance

Music has been shown to help in many areas of early childhood development. According to Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, using music in the early childhood ages (from birth to age five) can help play a crucial role during this remarkable period of human development.

Music can be an instant mood lifter and, during these uncertain times, can help to turn your child’s day around. From enhancing hand-eye coordination to expanding a child’s communication skills, music is an important thing to incorporate to help aid in early childhood development.

As a bonus, you can enjoy getting your wiggles out with your kiddos and even get your steps in! For all of you Fitbit users, I’m clocking a good 20+ active minutes during our song time– killing two birds with one stone.

Have you tried shaking the sillies out today? What tools are you using to stay sane in quarantine? We have a few more ideas that might help here. Take care, mama.
