Hi, I’m Katie, Co-Owner of Lansing Mom. I am so excited to be here in Lansing to build a community of moms together. Before I dive in, here’s five things you might not know about me!
- When I was growing up I wanted to be a writer or a marine biologist.
- Turns out, I am deathly afraid of fish.
- I don’t do well with blood in any form– do not come to me with even a paper cut.
- Red wine, Malbec specifically, is my favorite, and brownie/cookie combinations.
- Rewatching Gilmore Girls, Friends, SATC, and Gossip Girl is a hobby I could do over and over and over.

Our Roots
School
Growing up in the Metro Detroit area, I always had aspirations to head to East Lansing to attend MSU. After graduating high school, I did just that and graduated with a degree in History. Teaching was always a passion of mine, and so I began as an educator in 2013.
Marriage
My husband, Ben, and I met during my last year of college. We decided to stay in the Lansing area to continue on with our careers. Ben and I got married in August 2013, and the past six years have been a whirlwind!
Career
While in Lansing, I completed my Masters Degree, and taught for six years. Ben was a Director of Coaching for a youth soccer club. Our first home together was in Okemos. We traveled around the world, and then, in August 2016, welcomed our first baby.
Our Boys
Walter
Walter was born in August 2016. He is our little blue-eyed, blonde-haired babe. He looks just like his dad and truly has a mind of his own. NEVER stops moving is an understatement. Broccoli is his favorite food, and we’re pretty sure he’s really a sixteen-year-old trapped in a three-year-old’s body!
Arlo
Our second son, Arlo, was born in January 2018, and is now two years old. He has a few more of my genes than his dad! Arlo is definitely our mama’s boy, loves a good snuggle, and is a real lover. He’s got the sweetest little smiles and truly has completed our family.
Our Life
Getting out all around Michigan is something we truly love. Detroit Zoo is one of our favorite places to visit because the kids can run around and there’s always something special to see. Eating at great restaurants is a true hobby. We love good craft beer and getting outdoors with our black lab/great dane mix, Boomer. While we love all of the close spots in Michigan, Traverse City holds a place in our heart and we would go over and over again, any day, any time!
A Career Change
When Arlo was born our dynamics changed a little bit, life got a little busier, and the nights got a little longer. Going back to teaching would mean leaving the boys for 11 hours a day and I was not prepared for that. After a ton of deliberation, I decided not to return to my teaching position. In truth I wasn’t sure what I was going to do besides stay home with the boys.
It was a true leap of faith but it has led me to new opportunities with Lansing Mom, Detroit Mom, and The Barre Code. By making a decision on faith, I was led to some AMAZING communities of women! I am so thankful that I can be home with my boys but also that I was given the opportunity to do what I really love, which is build community.
I am truly looking forward to becoming a part of the Lansing community in such a big way.
