Introducing Kaley LaRoche… A Dimondale Mom

Hi! My name is Kaley LaRoche and I’m a 30 year-old boy-mom who loves life and enjoys living every single day to the fullest! I LOVE coffee– like, probably enjoy too many cups of it a day; I enjoy a glass of red wine but I’m also a tequila drinker. I also love to travel and am a huge fan of the beach– really, I love the sunshine. You’ll catch me stepping outside just to feel it on my skin!

I’m a Michigander through and through. I was born in Traverse City and feel a sense of wholeness when I’m there. I have always imagined myself eventually making it back there to live one day. I even married my husband there on September 21, 2012…the day after my parents’ anniversary and a day before my in-laws’ anniversary. I feel it was fate!

My Story

My story begings in Traverse City, but my life really took off when we moved to the Lansing area. I’m a Holt High School graduate and I also attended the Capital Area Career Center where I obtained enough hours of training to get my Cosmetology License.

I worked as long as I could as a hair dresser until I was in a car accident that totally altered my life. I will never forget the day: December 21, 2009. I thankfully walked away pretty unharmed, however, I basically ruined my shoulder. I worked for months not knowing I only had bone on bone in there. I remember hearing I wouldn’t be able to go back to my job, to my career, to my passion. That car accident took my career away from me and it was a devastating blow to say the least.

Since then, I’ve had four surgeries– three in the first three years after the accident, and another just before this last Thanksgiving. It’s taken up a lot of my life for the last 10+ years now, but it makes me who I am. Ever since, I’ve hustled, I’ve done lots of jobs, and I’ve had tons of fun doing them. I don’t sit still well and I love to get creative finding ways to generate income.

The best part, my most important job, is being a stay at home mom! I get to see my boys living their best lives. However, I have just accepted my first “real job” since the boys were born. This will for sure be a game changer and I’m not exactly sure how life will play out but I’m so excited to see what happens!

Marriage and Family

After we got married, my husband had plans to go active duty in the military. He was in the Army National Guard. He served overseas and loved it– yes, you read that right. However, at that time, the jobs he wanted on active duty weren’t available. We waited, renewed our vows (since our ceremony in Traverse City was small), and then we had our first baby boy, Dominik Jordan, on July 23, 2014. Amazing! I love being a mom!

However, I didn’t know how dirty parenting really was…more about that later. Dominik is what I call textbook: I loved my pregnancy and he did everything right about the times we were told he would. However, he’s a giant now at five years old and just a foot shorter than me. Not even joking! Oh, and we also wear the same size shoes. He’s a beast, guys!

On May 16, 2016, just one day before my husband’s birthday, we welcomed our second boy, Deakon John. He looks a lot like his older brother but is our wild child. I’m sure you hear that a lot about the second boy but he’s that child that basically says “hold my beer and watch this.” (No, he does not actually drink alcohol!) While I was pregnant, I was instructed not to lift because of placenta placement, along with having my gallbladder removed at around 26 weeks pregnant. So, let’s just say it’s been a lot of crazy since. Oh, and he broke his leg at 14 months old. I have so many stories for you!

I’m a huge dog lover. We have three dogs– two YorkiePoos: Bentley, who I call my little old man; and Brutus, who gets along with both of the other dogs. We also have a Hungarian Vizsla named Ruby. She’s the wild one who can jump to the top of doors, leap the length of stairs, and gives hugs and amazing snuggles at night…they all do, really!

Above everything, I am truly a family person. I am really close to my parents who are also local to the Lansing area. Thank you, God! I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to have them close for the boys and for my sanity. We do a lot with them and they do a lot for us. My brother and sister and their families all live in California, so we visit when we can and vice versa, but we make it happen because family means so much.

I’m excited to have my story continue and to write about it along with my past experiences. Life is definitely a journey, but having friends and family by your side makes it all the better!
