Introducing Jessica Kirsch…Future Okemos Mom

I’m Jessica, a 31 year-old living in Okemos with my long-term boyfriend, Matthew, and our two smoosh-faced kitties, Maxie and Gus. I’m a former hair stylist, now working full-time for the State of Michigan. My work day doesn’t end at 5 o’clock– I also do graphic design and run a wellness business.

Bloom with Grace

I was raised in the thumb of Michigan by a single mother– it was just my mom, little sister, and I growing up. In 2007, I moved away from home to study graphic design and visual art at Mid-Michigan Community College. In 2010, I moved to Chicago to study cosmetology at Pivot Point International Academy.

I’ve always been someone with big emotions. I struggled when I was younger– I didn’t understand what I was feeling. It wasn’t until about a year ago that I decided to take a leap of faith and see a therapist again (third time’s a charm). I’ve made so much progress with managing my mental health.

Small Steps Every Day

Health and wellness are both so important to me. With my wellness business, I’m able to help people make impactful changes in their homes. I started my journey two years ago when I was looking for a natural way to support my sleep. I’m looking forward to sharing ways to remove chemicals from homes: swapping for natural, chemical-free options; and finding products that work for families, not against them. I hope to turn this into a full-time business in the future, allowing me the freedom to work from home.

Mama Magic

Seeing a therapist weekly has helped me learn so much about the mother I want to be. Watching my mom friends and sisters with their littles– motherhood is the most beautiful thing and also the hardest thing. I know some days can be mentally, physically, emotionally tough days. But mama, you are doing an amazing job! I want moms to hear these words of affirmation when they feel like they’re failing. And for this, I‘m so excited to be a part of Lansing Mom! Community provides us with a sense of belonging and I think it’s important for mothers to know they are not alone.

I’d love to connect with you on Instagram! @jessicakirschessentials
