Introducing Jazmyne…A Lansing Mom

My name is Jazmyne Guy-Hollis, but you can call me Jaz or Jazz.  I am an elephant-loving, Boss Babe, and introvert until you get to know me. I turned 35 on April 30th and was born and raised in Lansing. In the summer, I like to spend some of my time on my family’s property outside of Mt. Pleasant. I am married to my husband Deon, a mom to my pandemic baby, sassy two-year-old diva daughter, and a bonus mom to my sixteen-year-old son. My family keeps me on my toes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

She’s a Boss Babe

When I am not running the household, I work for the State of Michigan as a supervisor; my office nickname is Boss Babe. I have my Associate’s Degree from Lansing Community College (General and Sociology), and I have recently completed my bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University (Fire Up Chips!). Since I have some free time now, I decided to get back into the gym and focus on my social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter). I hope to take this Boss Babe title to a new level one day.

First Time Mom in the Pandemic

I can say that my experience becoming a mom tested my mental and physical health. I was slowly falling apart and nervous about being a mom. I had a high-risk pregnancy, and I had complications during and after the birth of my daughter. Unfortunately, that was not the first hurdle I had to jump over. Healing and dealing with being isolated from my family at the beginning of the pandemic was hard. However, having a support system of family and friends who found creative ways of “being there” helped me.

Five Facts about me

1) I love fashion. I am my family and friend’s fashionista/stylist. I am the one that people will call or send a text and ask for opinions on their outfits. Also, having a daughter allows me to match outfits and shoes. So, if you are ever in need of a second opinion, or need to know where to find a good sale, I am your girl!

2) At age 30, I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and Graves disease. I am thankful to the doctor that literally saved my life during an office visit. To this day, I still have some symptoms that affect me. However, I have turned this negative diagnosis into a positive outcome and I refuse to let it dictate my life. I want to bring awareness to others and have their thyroid levels tested because it affects your body more than you think.

3) I come from a big family. I have three brothers, two sisters (I am the baby out of the siblings), twelve nieces and nephews, and six great-nieces and nephews. The majority of them either live in Michigan, California, or Tennessee.

4) I discovered my love of ATVing when I went to Las Vegas three years ago in the desert.  I hope to buy one in the next couple of years and create a trail on my family property outside of Mt. Pleasant.

5) Some people think I got my name after the famous actress Jasmine Guy (a distant cousin), but I didn’t. My brother decided to name me; otherwise, my name would have been Rebecca (after my paternal great-grandmother). I also have a younger cousin with the same name.

I am thankful for this opportunity to become a Lansing Mom contributor and bring some fresh and creative ideas to the group.
