A New Mom’s Guide to Stroller Buying

Finding the right stroller can be difficult. Whether you are walking around the town or running down the dirt road trail, your stroller is one the most-used baby items. To decide which stroller to buy, you’ll want to consider some of the most commonly asked questions: what are the different types of strollers? What important things should I consider? With this guide to stroller buying, you will walk away confidant in buying the right stroller for your family.

Different Types of Strollers

Take the time to research the different types of strollers. It can be overwhelming at first, but start by looking at the 4 main types of strollers: full size, umbrella, jogging, and double stroller.

First, the full size stroller. Many of these strollers are purchased for the long term. They are bigger, sturdier, and more durable than most. They also can come with a hefty price tag.

Second are the umbrella strollers. Made for easy, on-the-go travel as they are very light weight. Most have a shoulder strap, also.

The third most common type of stroller are jogging or running strollers. These are perfect for running, trails or dirt roads. They are also made for long term. With a superior suspension, heavy duty and well made; this stroller is meant for all the trails.

The last stroller is for those with multiple children. The double strollers have different capabilities such as adding a car seat, moveable seats and/or a stand bar.

Once you have researched, then you will be able to move on to asking yourself what are the different things you want to consider when stroller buying.

Things to Consider When Buying a Stroller

The Mayo Clinic Infant and Toddler Health publication, Stroller Safety: Tips for Parents, explains how to pick the best stroller for your baby and provides a better understanding of stroller safety tips.

Along with understanding stroller safety tips, you’ll want to know your price range. As with the different types of strollers, there are also a variety of different brands that come in a range of costs. Once you know a good price range, you’ll be able to then narrow down the different types that would be best for your family.

Then, with the right price range in mind you can take a closer look at the type of stroller that will fit your family’s lifestyle the best. It’s important to ask yourself whether you are looking for an easy, on-the-go stroller, or one to take on your next workout.

Now that you have narrowed down those two things, you can find the one compatible with your family size. Many strollers have add-ons and other features. You can purchase a double umbrella stroller or go more long-term with a double stroller that has the ability to add a car seat adaptor or a standing board for older children.

What have I learned?

It is extremely overwhelming when you are registering for baby items. I did not realize a stroller is one of the most used baby items. I was quick to buy and did not take the time to research the different types, sizes, terrain, storage size, and the variety of costs. The higher-priced strollers were never on my list, but after trying the different types, I realized I would have been better off going with the long-term, heavy duty stroller.  It’s important to consider how long you plan to use it so you reduce the risk of having to buy multiple strollers.

From the basic umbrella stroller, to the latest and greatest trail stroller; we hope the information in this guide will lead you to the best stroller buying experience ever.
